Heat is back in full force, officials say ‘keep it cool’

As meteorologists expect the mercury to near the triple digit range today, Pettis County Health Department officials would like to remind the public to keep cool and that several community resources are available.Pettis County is in a Heat Advisory effective since noon Monday until 7 p.m. today. Temperatures were expected to climb into the 90s Monday with a heat index approaching 97 to 100 degrees. Today will be even hotter with temperatures in the mid to high 90s with a heat index of 100 to 105 degrees.


Draffen opens S-C softball camp

First-year Smith-Cotton softball coach Janeil Draffen assists players Cheyenne Statler, with ball, and Maddy Kindle, during a workout Monday morning at Vansell Field in Liberty Park. Luthier Eron Harding and Steve Cox, owners of Backwood’s Guitar LLC, are finding they are fast becoming the musician’s friend and on-call 911 doctors for all sort of stringed instrument repair.While Cox runs the store-front, Harding, as the luthier, repairs banjos, guitars, violins and other stringed instruments in the business’s basement.This week Harding will fly to Spokane, Wash., to speak at a conference for the Guild of American Luthiers.

Council to fill vacant Ward 2 seat

The Sedalia City Council will once again have eight councilmembers if council votes to approve Mayor Steve Galliher’s recommendation to fill the Ward 2 seat during its meeting today.Galliher is recommending Russell Driskell to fill the Ward 2 seat vacated by former councilmember Becca La Strada two weeks ago due to health issues. If council approves the recommendation, Driskell will be sworn in before the meeting continues.
