SEDALIA— State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners’ Head Basketball Coach Kevin Bucher has announced the addition of Catie Kaifes as the team’s second 2016 recruit. The Shawnee, Kansas, native is a 5’11’’ guard who played at Mill Valley High School for Head Coach John McFall.
As a senior, Kaifes led the team in scoring and rebounding with an average of 17.6 points and eight rebounds per game. She was named honorable mention all-metro and earned first-team all-state honors. Kaifes earned first-team honors in the Kaw Valley League (KVL) and was named a top-10 area player by the Lawrence Journal-World. She was selected to the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association all-star team, the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association all-star team and the Sport Highlights Unlimited Kansas City (SHUKC) all-star team.
Kaifes also was named the Most Outstanding Player at the El Dorado Wildcat Classic and received the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Champion of Character Award.
As a junior, she led the team in scoring and rebounding with an average of 16 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Kaifes was named to the all-tournament team at the El Dorado Wildcat Classic and earned all-SHUKC and first-team honors in the KVL. She was named a top-10 area player by the Lawrence Journal-World and honorable mention Class 5A all-state by The Topeka Capital-Journal.
“Catie possesses a variety of skills,” said Bucher. “She can rebound and is an excellent three-point shooter. At one of the all-star events she won the three-point shooting contest for the state of Kansas. I’ve known her dad, a college coach, for years. She was highly recruited, and we’re excited to have her at SFCC.”
Smith-Cotton’s Scanlon hosts basketball camp
Smith-Cotton High School boys basketball head coach Brennan Scanlon will offer a camp for boys entering grades 4-12. The camp is June 6-9 and cost is $40 per camper. Forms can be picked up at the high school and an Smith-Cotton Junior High.

The S-C Lady Tigers defeated Center High School on the road Tueday 4-0.
Jessica Coble scored in the eighth minute on a Jillian Vansell assist. Peyton Sharp found Marilyn Ream for another goal minutes later.
Maddie Davidson made it 3-0 in the second half off an assist from Coble. Davidson assisted on Heidi Treuner’s goal with more than five minutes left to play.
Smith-Cotton (14-7-1, 8-1 WCC) face Clinton on the road tomowwor at 5 p.m.
The Lady Tigers junior varisty defeated Center by a score of 7-0.

The Gremlins led 4-0 in after the fourth inning, but allowed two in the fifth and three in the seventh in a 5-4 home loss to New Franklin on Tuesday.
