Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers’ 4×100 relay team won their event at the Class 5 Missouri Track and Field Championships May 28.

The team, comprised of Monique Grant, Nia Hawkins, Dennise Reyes and Mekeba Nash, edged Lee’s Summit West in a time of 48.02 seconds. The mark is a school record, and a half second faster than last year’s champions, Blue Springs.

Grant, a sophomore, also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.7 seconds.

Chance Johnson placed ninth in the long jump with a mark of 22 feet and 1 1/2 inches. He was also sixth in the high jump clearing 6 feet-6 inches.

Roberto Ramierz was sixth in javelin with a throw of 158 feet 2 inches. Senior Brady Johnson from Ray-Pec won the event with a mark of 178-10.

Carlton Homan had a mark of 45-5 3/4 inches in the shot put. Senior Charles Guier ran the 400 meter dash in 49.72 seconds.

Saige Peterson finished the 800 meter run in 2 minutes 20.89 seconds.
