Jonathan Cornell, leading all drivers in points at the Double-X Speedway, outlasted Warrensburg driver Taylor Walton Sunday in California to capture another winged sprints victory.
Cornell and Walton separated from the field early, lapped cars multiple times and changed leads twice before finishing first and second, respectively.
Walton, who entered Sunday’s race seventh in points, finished ahead of Tyler Blank, Broc Elliot and Miles Paulus to finish out the top five.
The Double-X Speedway also hosted a “Battle of the Badges” race, pitting law enforcement officers from different agencies against each other on the track for charity.
Fred Stotler, of St. Charles County Police Department, won the event over Kyle McIntyre, Holts Summit PD and Mike Demkowitz from the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center.
A pair of Russellville brothers finished first and second in the super stocks feature, with Derek Henson earning the victory over Cole Henson. The win preserved a 4-point Derek Henson lead over Cole. Tipton driver Destiny Dowell placed fifth.
Warrensburg driver Kameron Key finished runner-up to Ayrton Gennetten of Gravois Mills in the 600cc micro sprints feature.
Double-X Speedway’s next race is scheduled for Sunday, June 19, featuring ASCS Warrior Sprints, super stocks, hobby stocks and 600cc winged micro midgets.
