Sedalia made quick work Friday of the Warrensburg junior legion Warriors in the District 7 Tournament at Liberty Park in Sedalia.
Connor Tichenor allowed one hit in five innings in a 20-0 victory over Warrensburg.
Sedalia Rick Ball Ford jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, and batted around in an 11-run fourth inning.
Rick Ball’s pitcher kick-started the offense with a leadoff double. Corbin Reese grounded into a fielder’s choice to open the floodgates. Warrensburg starter Hayden Ridge hit three batters on the inning, and Tichenor drove in three run with a double in his second at bat.
Tichenor, who was 3-for-5 with five RBIs, said he had an aggressive approach at the plate.
“Just looking to hit until you see a pitch that you shouldn’t swing at,” he said.
Warrensburg finished off Waverly in game one of the Disctrict 7 tournament 10-9 before facing Sedalia. Game one began Thursday, but was delayed to 5 p.m. Friday due to rain. Warrensburg head coach Terry Leonard prepared for a third game after the loss. He said his pitching staff was thin due to three players being absent, and the nature of tournaments.
“You come into the tournament knowing what you need to do, and try to put the right combination on the field,” Leonard said.
Easton Webb collected three RBIs, while Nick Cashman and Cash Miller drove in two.
The District 7 tournament continues Saturday at noon. Sedalia will host the winner of Friday’s rematch between Warrensburg and Waverly.
