The Sedalia Bombers twice took the lead and twice the Clarinda A’s answered in the bottom of the same inning as the A’s beat the Bombers 3-2 on Wednesday in Clarinda, Iowa.
The Bombers jumped ahead in the third when Stewart Nelson hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Jack Mercer.
In the bottom of the third, Caleb Mitchell scored on a Zach Belanger single.
The Bombers again took the lead in the fifth. Nelson hit another sacrifice fly as Alex Del Rio scored. In the bottom of the fifth, Clayton Daniel scored to tie the game 2-2.
Daniel scored again in the seventh on a Chase Hamilton single and the lead held up.
Justin Holt led off the eighth with a double and went to third when Trey Harris reached on an error, but a strikeout, a grounder back to the mound and another strikeout ended the inning, preserving the Clarinda lead.
The A’s worked around a one-out walk in the ninth to end it.
Ryan Lee pitched five innings for the Bombers and allowed two runs on six hits, striking out five. Brady Womacks and Christopher Mancha pitched in relief. Womacks allowed the run which proved to be the game-winner, striking out one and walking three in two innings. Mancha pitched one inning and allowed a hit.
The Bombers enter the All-Star break 16-11, trailing the St. Joseph Mustangs by 3.5 games in the North Division.
The All-Stars, including nine Sedalia Bombers, will take the field in St. Joseph Thursday.
