A Texarkana, Arkansas, shutout eliminated Post 642 Sedalia from the American Legion Mid-South Regional.
Patrick Flanagan pitched seven scoreless innings Sunday, Aug. 7, in a 5-0, Post 58 victory over the Missouri champions. The Sedalia loss preceded storms that postponed the tournament’s conclusion between Post 58 and host team Post 298 Bryant, Arkansas.
First pitch for that game is tenatively scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday.
Sedalia previously defeated Post 554 League City, Texas, to stay alive Saturday in the regional after a 2-1 start. The Travelers suffered its first loss Friday to Bryant, 6-3.
After exchanging leads in the first inning against Texas, the Travelers scored an insurance run on a Baxter Mays double in the top of the ninth inning, pushing its lead to 5-3.
Dom Zerilli hit an RBI single in the first inning. League City answered with three runs.
Corbin Mertgen, who pitched six innings in relief, allowed just one run in the bottom of the ninth. Starter Gehrig Taylor pitched three innings, allowing three runs and a two-run home run in the first.
Seven Bradbury, Gavin Jones and Chase Plymell scored run in the sixth inning to capture a 4-3 lead over League City.
In its loss to Texarkana, the Travelers collected eight hits and three walks, but stranded 10 runners. Gable Dull and Tristen Jackson pitched four innings apiece.
Post 642 Sedalia finishes its season 37-19 as first-time Missouri state champions.
The American Legion World Series begins on Thursday, Aug. 11. in Shelby, N.C. The Mid-South champion opens play Friday, Aug. 12, at 11:30 a.m., against Western Regional champion, San Mateo, Calif.
