Sacred Heart claims Gremlins tri-match

The Sacred Heart Lady Gremlins placed first at the Gremlin tri-match on Wednesday with Green Ridge and California at the Sedalia Country Club, shooting a score of 200.

California finished with a team score of 240, and Green Ridge shot a 263.

Abby Smeltzer and Claire Sobaski tied for medalist honors with a score of 49. Anjanae Williams was runner-up with a 50.

Julianna Bourgeret and Noelle Sunnarborg both carded a 52.

The Lady Gremlins compete 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Class 1, District 2 golf tournament at Indian Foothills in Marshall.

SWIM AND DIVE

Smith-Cotton first at Truman

Smith-Cotton dominated the pool Wednesday afternoon, taking first in a five-team meet at Truman High School in Independence.

The Tigers racked up 614 points, while Truman finished second with 490, followed by Marshall (159), Van Horn (37) and William Chrisman (22).

Jeremy Acosta and Joshua Osorio let the Tigers, each winning two events and swimming on two first-place relays. Acosta won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, and Osorio won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke; they were joined by Felix Sultanov and Mitchell Lake on the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Isaiah McNeal won the one-meter diving event, with Sultanov taking second and Peyton Camirand finishing the sweep for S-C. Jared Baker was second and Lake was third in the 50-yard freestyle, Lake was second in the 100-yard backstroke, Sultanov was second and Mike Husyev was third in the 100-yard butterfly, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team (Baker, Vlad Husyev, Mike Husyev, Andriy Usyk) was second.

LATE TUESDAY RESULTS

Windsor 2, La Monte 0

Windsor volleyball defeated La Monte 25-14, 25-7 on the road Tuesday.

Ashley Eveling had five kills, while Carmyn Johnson and Jodi Delong had two kills apiece.

Johnson served for 11 points with two aces.

Windsor’s junior varsity won 25-16, 25-13.

GIRLS TENNIS

Knob Noster 8, Carrollton 1

A 7-1 tiebreaker in the No. 6 singles match kept Knob Noster from sweeping Carrollton on the road Tuesday in an 8-1 Lady Panther victory.

Alex Allen, Jessica Yates, Elizabeth Eccleton, Alexis Corona and Ella Konrad picked up victories, with Allen surrendering the only game combined between the five.

Allen and Yates moved to 13-1 on the season as Knob Noster swept doubles.
