Kaysinger Conference baseball and softball open up the 2017 seasons on Friday, when the Lincoln Cardinals face Green Ridge at 5 p.m. in Lincoln.

On Thursday, La Monte hosts a baseball and softball jamboree, previously delayed by temperatures early in the week, 4:30 p.m. in La Monte.

Along with the Vikings and Lady Vikings, the Northwest and Green Ridge baseball and softball programs are scheduled to compete at the La Monte Jamboree. Last season, the Lady Vikings and Mustangs baseball teams won its respective district championships.

La Monte Lady Vikings softball – Season at a glace

The Lady Vikings finished 20-2 last season, capturing the District 15 championship and went undefeated in conference play to secure the Kaysinger title and tournament. Along the way, La Monte was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 10 academic high school team, with a GPA of 3.744.

Dabecka Kirk, 8-year head coach for La Monte, returns four All-District selections to the team for 2017, including Maya Martin, Maleiah Parker, Kameron Morton and Emily Knoerschild.

On the left side of the diamond, sophomores Alicia Davis and Alexis Rodriguez are making the jump to varsity starters at shortstop and third base, respectively.

La Monte graduated five All-District players last season, including its No. 1 pitcher, Madison Harris. Parker, listed as starting catcher for La Monte, and Lindey Oehrke are expected to pick up slack in the circle.

Kendra Mugg will get innings behind the plate if Parker is in the circle.

After the jamboree, the Lady Vikings begin its regular season at home against Bunceton at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 21.

Northwest Mustangs baseball – Season at a glance

After a Final Four appearance last season, the Mustangs return eight of its starters for a run at another one.

Northwest went 20-10 and was runner-up in the Kaysinger Conference Tournament, finishing with a conference record of 8-1.

The Mustangs are led by a pair of sophomore pitchers, Connor Tichenor and Rylan Chamberlin. Both posted ERAs under three last season and earned All-State honorable mentions.

Chandler Crosswhite, Garren Powell, Tanner Killion, Alex Breshears, Dallas Hammonds and Baron Austin fill out the lineup of Mustang returners.

Northwest opens its regular season 5 p.m. Friday in Hughesville, hosting Slater.
