Mules end losing streak versus Griffons

Four field goals and a late touchdown led the Central Missouri Mules past Missouri Western 18-17, marking the first win for UCM over the Griffons in the past five games.

The Griffons got on the board first when Skyler Windmiller completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Dee Toliver in the first quarter.

Mules kicker Billy Greco went made his first of four field goals with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter.

Greco made two field goals in the second quarter to give the Mules a 9-7 lead at halftime. Greco’s longest make was from 46 yards out. He only missed one attempt.

Raphael Spencer gave the Griffons the led with a 1-yard score in the fourth quarter.

UCM and MWSU traded field goals before Garrett Fugate completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Echols with 3:45 remaining to give UCM an 18-17 lead.

Fugate went 18 for 32 for 233 yards and a TD. Markel Smith ran it 13 times for 48 yards.

Alex Lackey and Austin Miller each had an interception. Jason Venchus had 1.5 sacks. Josh Powell and Tevin Teamer each had a sack.

UCM (1-0) will play at Emporia State at 7 p.m. Thursday.
