Simoncic, Sparks lead S-C freshmen

Quarterback Kyler Simoncic and running back Davion Sparks each scored two touchdowns as the Smith-Cotton freshmen football team defeated Warrensburg, 26-14, Monday night at S-C’s Tiger Stadium.

Simoncic snapped off a 52-yard scoring run late in the first quarter, with Sparks adding the PAT kick. Warrensburg responded with a TD and two-point conversion to take a 8-7 lead. With 1:20 left in the half, Sparks scored from six yards out to get the lead back for S-C, 14-8.

Sparks scored again in the third quarter, this time on an eight-yard run to make it 20-8.

On the fourth quarter, Warrensburg drew to 20-14 on an 81-yard TD run, but Simoncic answered with a 15-yard TD run.

Garrett Walkington’s interception with 39 seconds left sealed the win for S-C (2-1), which plays at Pleasant Hill next Monday.
