Record-setting day lifts UCM over Missouri Southern

The Central Missouri football team gained a school-record 705 yards in total offense as the Mules beat Missouri Southern 54-10 on Saturday. UCM gained 335 yards rushing and 370 through the air.

Garrett Fugate completed 21 passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 105 yards and a score. Markel Smith gained 74 yards and scored a touchdown. The Mules also got rushing touchdowns from Rodney Smith, Eric Siebenshuh and Jordan Keeney.

UCM broke the game open with 24 points in the second quarter, Fugate finding Jaylen Zachery for a 57-yard touchdown pass to open the quarter. Rodney Smith then carried it in from two yards out, Billy Greco added a 30-yard field goal and Fugate found Josh Pickrell for an 18-yard touchdown with 14 seconds left before halftime.

The Mules scored 21 more points in the third quarter.

The UCM defense held Missouri Southern to 4 of 18 on third-down conversions in the game.

The Mules will visit Washburn on Saturday.
