State Fair women and men win home openers

The State Fair Community College women’s basketball team held off the Kirkwood College Eagles 53-52 in the opening game of the season in the McDonald’s Classic Friday night at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

Tied at the half, 21-21, the Lady Roadrunners outscored Kirkwood by one point, 14-13 in the in the third quarter.

Kiante Johnson led SFCC with 13 points. Johnson added three offensive rebounds and three steals.

Seara Clayborn added 10 points, going 3-for-5 from the there point range.

The Lady Roadrunners shot 18 of 63 and forced 14 turnovers.

SFCC will next face College Albert College at 5:30 p.m.

The State Fair Community College me’s team won their home opener Saturday night 99-76 against the Link Year College Lions in the opening round of the McDonald’s Classic.

SFCC led 42-33 at the half and outscored the Lions by 14 points in the second half of play for the win.

The Roadrunners were led by Duante Stephens with 21. Stephens went 10 for 16 on the night.

Five Roadrunners were in double digits in scoring, shooting 46.7 percent on the night. The team also had 27 assists.

State Fair will face Butler County College at 7:30 p.m. today.
