The Smith-Cotton wrestlers fell to Mexico 68-48 on Tuesday.

S-C’s Brennan Akeson pinned Blayne Weiberg at 126 pounds. Logan Parham got a first-period pinfall in the 132-pound match. Jacob Sherrill picked up a win by pinfall at 220.

Smith-Cotton beat Marshall 42-31.

Parham pinned Devon Wright in 1:17. Blake Ponajzl won by pinfall in the 138 match. Gauge Young needed just 39 seconds to score the pinfall at 160 pounds. Jared Brown won via pinfall in 58 seconds at 182. The Tigers also got pinfall victories from Izaiah Snyder at 195 and Michael Laster at heavyweight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tipton 74, Calvary Lutheran 48

The Tipton Cardinals beat Calvary Lutheran 74-48 on Tuesday.

Allison Brant led the Cardinals with 30 points including five 3-pointers and 10 rebounds. Destiny Dowell had 25 points, 10 steals, eight assists and six rebounds.

Tipton (3-3) will play Cole Camp on Thursday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Sacred Heart 64, Lincoln 49

Sacred Heart beat Lincoln 64-49 on Tuesday.

Sacred Heart had 24 points from Trent Lyles. Micah Tanguay added 14.

Ryan Eckhoff had 14 points for the Cardinals. Aaron Yearout had 15.

Sacred Heart (3-2, 1-0 Kaysinger) will face Green Ridge on Friday.

Windsor 70, Oak Grove 67

Windsor opened the Higginsville Tournament with a 70-67 win over Oak Grove on Tuesday.

Trenton Johnson closed things out for the Greyhounds by going 4 for 4 from the free throw line. He finished with 21 points.

Jakob Erdmann had 15. Blake Clancy added 12.

Late Monday

GIRLS BASKETBALL

La Monte 69, Calhoun 31

The La Monte Lady Vikings opened the Mid-State Tournament Monday with a 69-31 win over Calhoun.

The No. 1 seeded Lady Vikings were led by Madison Harris’ 24 points. Maya Martin added 13 points and 14 rebounds. Katie Patrick scored nine points.

La Monte had a 41-14 edge in rebounding.

La Monte will face Kingsville on Wednesday.

Concordia 61, Orrick 43

Concordia overcame some cold shooting early to beat Orrick 61-43 in the first round of the I-70 Conference Tournament on Monday.

Caley Cooper led the Lady Orioles with 19 points, including a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Concordia scored 20 points to pull away. Ellison Brunkhorst added 12.

Paige Smith led Orrick with 20 points.

Buffalo 73, Warsaw 28

The Warsaw Lady Wildcats fell to Buffalo 73-28 on Monday.

Pilot Grove Tournament

Pilot Grove boys and girls both opened the round-robin Tiger Classic with wins on Monday. The Tigers beat Northwest 74-51 while the Lady Tigers beat the Lady Mustangs 61-34.

Stover fell to Prairie Home in girls basketball 57-33. The Stover boys beat Prairie Home 77-73.

The tournament will continue Wednesday. The Northwest girls will face Prairie Home at 4:30 p.m. with the boys game to follow. The Stover girls will face Pilot Grove at 7:30 p.m. with the boys game to follow.
