Five Smith-Cotton wrestlers won their division and three others finished second Saturday in the Smith-Cotton Rookie Roundup Tournament, which drew 140 freshmen and sophomore wrestlers from 16 schools.

First place finishers were Justin Osburn (138 pounds A Group, 4-0 record), Nate McFail ((138B, 4-0), Jayden Uptegrove (152B, 4-0), Brandon Neale (170B, 4-0) and Jared Brown (182, 5-0). Taking second were Brody Kindle (138A, 3-1), Chris Brown (170A, 2-2) and Trent Johnson (220A, 2-1).

“These young wrestlers are really fun to watch,” said S-C assistant coach Mike Pomajzl. “They have shown such great improvement in their wrestling styles and abilities. The exciting thing is that they keep on learning and trying new things. They work hard in practice, improving their skill level, conditioning, and skill level and that shows up on the mat.”
