Sacred Heart celebrated senior night before, during and after their game Thursday against Otterville.

Before starting lineups were announced, Sacred Heart delivered flowers to the Lady Eagles’ four seniors, recognized their senior duo, Lexie Thompson and Laura Wadley, and proceeded to handle Otterville on the court, 40-28.

After the game, Sacred Heart recognized as many of the 24 graduating Sacred Heart seniors in attendance.

First-year head coach Caleb Crooker said he was thankful to coach quality senior leaders.

“They do a good job on and off the court, just being good role models,” Crooker said. “I was lucky to inherit some good seniors.”

Wadley scored the first two Sacred Heart field goals and finished with four points total.

McKenna Beeler and Elayna Ebers led Sacred Heart with 13 points apiece.

Sacred Heart led 10-2 after the first quarter.

Hannah Benny broke an eight-minute Otterville scoreless streak in the second quarter by drawing a foul with a post move down low. Benny’s shot fell and the score was 12-5 after her made free-throw.

Benny led Otterville with nine points and was 3 of 5 from the free-throw line.

Otterville called a time out after Beeler went coast-to-coast for a layup to put Sacred Heart up 17-5.

A layup from Anjanae Williams gave the Gremlins a 21-7 lead with three minutes left in the first half. A pair of free throws from Ebers pushed the lead to 23-11.

Natalie Schoen made a 3-pointer before half to cut the Lady Eagle deficit to 23-14.

Sacred Heart outscored Otterville 11-2 in the third quarter.

The Lady Eagles brought pressure on the inbounds in the fourth quarter, and held Sacred Heart to six points.

When Dalanney Stone hit an open 3-pointer with three minutes to play, Otterville trailed 38-28.

Crooker said turnovers accounted for the late Otterville run.

“Just not taking care of the ball,” Crooker said. “They put a little more pressure on us, and we made some ill-advised passes and shot-selection wasn’t great down the stretch.”
