The State Fair Lady Roadrunners won the NJCAA Division I Region 16 Basketball Tournament over the weekend at Joplin.
State Fair, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, defeated Moberly Area Community College 67-47 in the semifinals last Thursday. The Lady Roadrunners overcame a 15-point deficit to edge top-seeded Mineral Area 88-86 in overtime to claim the Region 16 title.
Zhanesha Dickerson led SFCC with 23 points and nine rebounds. Sierra Clayborn scored 12 and Bre’Anna Lamar had 11 points off the bench.
Janekia Mason led the Lady Cardinals with a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds. Hayley Winter had 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
State Fair entered halftime trailing 36-25. A 4-0 run gave Mineral Area their largest lead of the game. The Lady Roadrunners roared back in the third quarter and outscored the Lady Cardinals 32-13.
A pair of Clayborn free-throws were the difference in overtime. She scored 8 of the 10 SFCC points in the extra period.
Men defeated in Region 16 finals
After beating Mineral Area for the second time in as many weeks in the semifinals, the State Fair Roadrunners fell 92-81 to Moberly Area in the NJCAA Division I Region 16 Basketball Tournament in Joplin.
Willie Jimerson Jr. led the Roadrunners with 22 points and eight rebounds. Ronnie Rousseau III had 17 points and Craig McKenzie Jr. had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Daniel Dzierzawski scored a game-high 28 points for the Greyhounds. Rashad Lindsey had 26 points.
Leonard Harper-Baker had five points and 14 rebounds for Moberly Area coming off the bench.
