Mules score 38 unanswered points in blowout win

Nebraska-Kearney went up 7-0 after an 89-yard interception return in the first quarter, but the Central Missouri Mules scored the remaining 38 points of the game to win 38-7 on the road Saturday.

Billy Greco hit a 25-yard field goal in the middle of the first quarter and the Mules took a 10-7 lead in the second quarter when Garrett Fugate completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Echols.

Fugate found Ian Toalson for a 16-yard score, giving UCM a 17-7 lead.

Jaylen Zachary caught Fugate’s third TD pass to give UCM a 24-7 lead in the third quarter.

Kenny Mings got a 52-yard pick six and Markel Smith had a one-yard TD run in the third quarter to cap off the scoring.

Fugate finished with 246 yards through the air with three scores and an interception.

Smith ran for 105 yards on 21 carries and the third-quarter touchdown.

Echols led UCM with five receptions for 58 yards and a score.

Eight different UCM players caught at least one pass.

UCM (2-2) will host Missouri Southern (1-3) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
