Grow and Glow Garden Club

The Grow and Glow Garden Club FGCM met Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Tipton Methodist Church conference room. The 14 members attending enjoyed a Zoom program by Paige Witek of the Missouri River Bird Observatory and State Coordinator of the Missouri Young Birders Club. She talked about the amazing stories of bird migration and provided visuals to explain their routes.  She explained why birds migrate as well as some of the fascinating feats they encounter. She described migration as one of the great wonders of the world.

Before the meeting, several members met and made plans for the coming year. Pizza was provided by the club for lunch. Linda Dahl organized lunch and the Zoom program presentation.  Twila Garber gave the blessing for the food.

Barbara Harrison led the business meeting. The children’s project at the Price James Library was discussed, and will be carried out early next summer. An application for a grant will be made to provide financial assistance.

Under new business, Janet Mulcahy reported that she was approached about the possibility of the Garden Club and Master Gardeners joining forces to help plan landscaping for the entrance of a trail that is in the planning stages at Versailles. It was decided that more information will be needed in order to make a decision.

Kendra Johnson made the motion that the club move funds to enable the Lewis and Mable Smith Scholarship to be extended another year. The motion passed. She asked the group to email pictures of their gardens for the 2021 club yearbook.

Cynthia Brodersen and Nancy Byars, nominating committee, said the same slate of officers will serve next year. The installation will be at the January meeting.

Mulcahy gave an update on the Versailles Blue Star Memorial progress. Harrison urged the membership to go by and see the site when going to the December meeting.

Congratulations were extended to the members celebrating October birthdays, JoAnn Collier, Davie Henshaw, Linda Reid, Dala Yontz, and Johnson.

Ellaine Beeman will provide the November Price James Library arrangement.

The November meeting will be at the Co-Mo Community Room.

Snacks for the meeting were provided by Micki Williams and Linda Reid. Cans of pie filling were given by the members to provide cobblers for Tipton Oak Manor residents.
