The unsettling summer has ended, and in Pettis County, we still grapple with the fact that a young woman was shot and killed by one of our deputies. The sheriff asked that the Highway Patrol investigate, and the Patrol gave the results to the County prosecutor. He then asked that an independent prosecutor evaluate the evidence and determine whether charges should be filed against the deputy.
