This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Jan. 5

2 p.m.: Karan A. Gaines, 57, of the 4900 block of Vernon Road, was arrested on charges of felony stealing, felony fraudulent use of a credit card device, misdemeanor identity theft, forgery, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Kimberly K. Vasquez, 52, was arrested on charges of felony stealing, felony fraudulent use of a credit card device, misdemeanor identity theft and forgery. Complainants came to the police station at 4:20 p.m. Saturday to report their purse had been stolen from the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard. An officer contacted the business where the theft occurred and retrieved video footage of the incident. The following day, the complainants contacted SPD to report their debit and credit cards had been used at multiple locations. Officers located the suspects and took them into custody.

Jan. 7

4:20 p.m.: Blake H. Tokuda, 40, of the 1100 block of East Sixth Street, was arrested on a charge of stealing. Tokuda approached an officer on patrol in the area of South Kentucky Avenue and West Second Street to ask for directions. The officer recognized Tokuda and his vehicle from photos emailed through the police department identifying a theft suspect. He arrested Tokuda and read him his Miranda rights. Tokuda said he didn’t want to answer any questions concerning the case. The officer booked him at the Pettis County Jail and released him with a Sedalia Municipal Court summons.

8:55 p.m.: Nicholas S. Brandes, 35, of Cole Camp, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license. Officers stopped Brandes’ vehicle for having an inoperable headlight and found he had a revoked license.

Incidents

Jan. 7

8:15 a.m.: Officers assisted the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division with a co-investigation into sexual misconduct involving a person under 16. The alleged incident was reported to have taken place in the 1800 block of South Park Avenue. At the time of the report, the incident was still under investigation.

4:35 p.m.: The police department investigated a domestic violence incident in the 600 block of South Montgomery Avenue. Officers learned a male suspect had choked a victim and fled the area. The victim refused medical attention. The officers are seeking a charge of domestic assault against the suspect.

Arrests

Jan. 7

3:30 p.m.: Ashly D. Thurman, 30, of Warsaw, was arrested in Henry County on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Troopers also served a felony warrant from Lafayette County.

11:45 p.m.: Cody S. Irwin, 23, of Windsor, was arrested in Pettis County on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Jan. 8

10:20 a.m.: Dontavia D. Woodard, 31, of Knob Noster, was arrested in Johnson County on a charge of driving without a valid license. Troopers also served a felony warrant from Pettis County.
