Julian Bagby was popular enough to be elected to several terms as mayor; he served from 1936 through 1941, from 1946 through 1949, and from 1954 through 1957. He was also controversial enough that one campaign against him carried the slogan “Let’s bag Bagby before he bags Sedalia.”
