Sedalia Public Works to test fire hydrants

Posted

The City of Sedalia Public Works Department will begin performing fire hydrant testing and flow monitoring as part of the city’s water systems planning activities Nov. 4-18.

Testing will be performed throughout the city during which customers may experience discolored water near where tests are being conducted. All water in the main is treated, disinfected water and is safe for use. While the discolored water is aesthetically unpleasant it still will meet all state and federal drinking water standards. If discolored water is experienced, customers are advised to turn on the cold water tap in their bathtub or another fixture without an aerator and let the water run until it’s clear. Residents should also avoid using their washing machines until their tap water is clear.

Workers and equipment will be present near and in roadways as they conduct these activities. Residents are asked to drive carefully around the area they are present.

Questions can be directed to the City of Sedalia Public Works Department at 660-827-3000 ext. 1166.
