Sedalia/Pettis County NAACP awards local scholarships

The Sedalia/Pettis County NAACP has awarded two $500 scholarships to local college students.

One of the scholarship winners is Sakkyra King, of Jefferson City. She is the daughter of Contessa Poole King and Marquess King, of Jefferson City, and the granddaughter of Cookie and Noah Poole, of Sedalia. Sakkyra graduated from Jefferson City High School in 2020. She participated in the Student Council, the varsity basketball team and was a member of the National Honor Society. Sakkyra attends the University of Kansas and is majoring in computer science.

The other scholarship winner is Christian Finley, of Sedalia. He is the son of LaTonya Jones, of Sedalia, and Chris Finley, of Jefferson City, and the grandson of Kay Beth Finely, of Sedalia. Christian graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 2020. He participated in basketball and track. He is attending State Fair Community College and majoring in business.
