After scoring one run in each of their first two games in the Sedalia-Warrensburg Tournament, the Sedalia Travelers found ways to drive in runs in their third game against Parkville, winning 18-9 in five innings at Dey Field at Liberty Park.
Sedalia had to rally from an 8-6 deficit after three innings, and it did in a big way.
Nine runs came across the plate in the fourth, including a Roberto Ramirez double to right field that drove in three runs to put the Travelers up 12-8.
“We were tired of scoring one run,” Ramirez said. “Those games, one run, is not normal for us. Normally we are a good hitting team.”
Ramirez went 3 for 4 with four RBI. He also pitched the final two innings to help secure the win by run-rule. He allowed one run on one hit and struck out two.
To cap off the fourth-inning barrage of runs, Dom Zerilli tripled to right-center to score a pair of runs and give the Travelers a 15-8 lead. Zerilli went 2 for 4 with three RBI.
“They put some good swings on it and they are driving the baseball and they are just grinding it out,” said Travelers coach Jeff Mays.
The win earned the Travelers a spot in Sunday’s championship game, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
