Martin Warren Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution

Ashley Young a ninth-grade History and Holocaust teacher at Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia presented the program at the Sept. 21 meeting of the Martin Warren Chapter, Missouri Society, Sons of the American Revolution.

In the summer of 2023, Mr. Young was selected by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Foundation to be one of the 32 high school educators from across the United States to be part of a week- long program in Poland. While in Poland, Mr. Young spent three days at Auschwitz, two days in Krakow, and a day in Warsaw. The purpose of the program in Poland was to learn from first-hand sources about the Holocaust. Mr. Young’s presentation was well received by the members and guests present.

Following Mr. Young’s presentation, he was awarded the SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal and Certificate. The SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal was authorized by the National Society of the American Revolution in 1895. This award is designed to recognize individuals with noteworthy achievements at the local and state levels.

The Martin Warren Chapter meets at 10:30 AM at the Rise Café in Warrensburg on the third Saturday of the month. The Chapter does not meet in February, July, and August.

Osage Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution

The Osage Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met Saturday, August 21, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Boonslick Regional Library.

Regent Arthea Wasson welcomed new members Marissa Fisher, Cynthia Harkey, and Sheila Palotnick. Refreshments were provided by Marissa Fisher and Cynthia Harkey. Wasson called the meeting to order with ten members present. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Cynthia Harkey.

The American’s Creed was led by Marissa Fisher. The Preamble to the Constitution was led by Sheila Palotnick and the Pledge to the State of Missouri was led by Carolyn Miller. The President General’s message was included with last month’s agenda. The National Defense Report was given by Marissa Fisher.

The minutes of the April meeting were read and approved. The Treasurer’s report was submitted by Kathy Morris and is filed for audit. Della Cline presented the program on Conservation efforts, recommendations, and advances. There was much discussion on the subject.

Committee Reports; Scarlett Pirtle reported on the DAR supported schools. Carolyn Miller reported on the veterans committee.

Jeanean Longan was unavailable for the meeting but was recognized by members for DAR’s Constitution Week. Jeanene visited multiple schools in the area with storyboards and information for students. Pat Palmer was unable to attend but sent a request for new children’s books for the Literacy Program. Regent Wasson reported a very successful West Central District Conference held in Sedalia, with an attendance of eight-four.

Certificates of recognition to Osage members from the conference were presented to Linda Reed, Arthea Wasson, Jean Gallagher, and Pat Palmer. The event was catered by Table of Five and there were many volunteers that made the meeting a success.

The door prize was won by Sheila Palotnick. 

Osage Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a direct lineage society of Revolutionary War patriot descendants established in1898 and meets the third Saturday of each month at the Boonslick Regional Library, 219 W 3rd St., Sedalia.
