Soul Root to take the stage on The Lot

Jefferson City Rockers, Soul Root, are back on The Lot stage by popular demand, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. They play music that makes one want to get up and dance, or at the very least, makes everyone want to sing along, the idea is to play all the favorites in a style that only Soul Root can deliver...always leaving everyone wanting more.

This is a free concert to say "thank you" for choosing the Liberty Center as the Best of Sedalia's, Best Live Music Venue.

LCAA to host 5th Street Improv this weekend

One never knows what will happen with 5th Street Improv. With audience suggestions, every show is different. Everyone is encouraged to bring friends and get ready to laugh at two shows: 7:30 Saturday, Oct. 7 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8. The Hayden Liberty Center is located at 111 W. Classic Country Jamboree benefit Oct. 8 for SFCC scholarships

The Genuine Country Music Association (GCMA) will host its 11th Annual Classic Country Jamboree benefit at 2 p.m. on Oct. 8 in the Exhibition Center (Campana Hall) at Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake Ozark. Doors will open at 1 p.m.

This blockbuster event with multi-talented entertainers and the Board of Directors Band will perform a variety of traditional country music. The event will raise scholarship funds for students attending State Fair Community College-Lake of the Ozarks, and funds for Lake of the Ozarks Soccer Association and Wonderland Camp. This year’s entertainers include the following: Leona Williams, international country music star, began singing with her family band, and had her own radio show in Jefferson City as a teen. She has written songs for and performed with Merle Haggard, Gene Watson, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, and many more. Ron Williams, acclaimed Nashville recording artist and crowd favorite. J.R. Love, talented country and gospel singer from the St. Louis area.

The Board of Directors Band, features John Farrell on bass; Jim Phinney on guitar; Alicia Farrell Lange, a Nashville vocalist back and backup vocalist for the jamboree; Mike McGee on steel guitar; Darrel Cummings on guitar; and Mark Fitch on drums.

Bill “Goofer” Atterberry, singer, comedian and entertainer who was on Lee Mace’s Ozark Opry for over 38 years and Dennis Stroughmatt, a big fan favorite on the fiddle.

Larry Hurst from Kansas City, began his singing career while in the Air Force, has performed with Jeannie Seely, Tim Atwood and appeared on the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree. Helen Russell, Ozark Opry veteran, a well-known singer, musician, and entertainer Marty Schoenthaler, multi-talented vocalist and instrumentalist Rick Newman, a guest performer and fiddler extraordinaire.

There will be two dance floors, concessions and a cash bar. Attendees may bid on a silent auction of many great items and a live auction for a week’s stay at a condo in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Tickets are $35 for GCMA members, $45 for non-members and free for children under 12 years old. Veterans will get in free. Tickets are available at John Farrell Real Estate Company, 5750 Osage Beach Parkway in Osage Beach or online at www.gcmatherealthing.com.

Mid-Missouri Artists Fall Events

Mid-Missouri Artists is hosting a Gelli Print Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 in the ABC Building in Grover Park in Warrensburg. The workshop will be led by art educators Janet Bryan and Leesha Dunkeson with participants learning how to create prints using gel plates. Each participant will take home a 5-by-7-inch gel plate which can be reused many times. A pot-luck lunch will be shared while prints dry. Persons who are not members of MMA are welcome to participate in the workshop for a fee of $15 (payable at the door) to cover the cost of the gel plate and some of the materials. Upon registration — an invitation with more detailed information about what to bring will be sent by email. Older children or grandchildren are welcome to participate.

Saturday, Nov. 4, is the date for the 47th Holiday Arts and Crafts Show. Vendor space is still available, and applications can be picked up at the Warrensburg Community Center or printed from www.midmissouriartists.com (Events-Annual). This event is co-sponsored by MMA and Warrensburg Parks and Recreation and held in the Warrensburg Community Center, 445 E. Gay from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s a wonderful indoor venue — no wrestling to set up a tent up or worrying about weather conditions. The facility is handicap accessible. A shopper survey in 2022 showed that 80 percent of shoppers made a purchase.

Those who visit the show on Nov. 4 will find unique, well-made, hand-crafted items for holiday gifting or decorating.
