50 Highway to be impacted by bridge construction in 2027

WARRENSBURG — More improvements – and traffic cones – are coming to U.S. Highway 50 west of Warrensburg in 2027.
The Missouri Department of Transportation unveiled its plans for westbound bridge rehabilitation projects at both Post Oak Creek and Devils Branch during a public meeting Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Warrensburg Municipal Building.
Thursday’s meeting gave the public the chance to learn about the scope, timeline and effects of the project, which is anticipated to begin in July. The project is expected to span 120 days.
The bridges were identified as rehabilitation prospects through MoDot’s inspection program, which grades bridges by their condition. The project is expected to cost $3.3 million.Hey “They give them a grading number of one to nine,” MoDot area representative Marisela Ward said. “The lower it is, it will be worked on.”
MoDOT indicates that though the bridge’s integrity remains, a full bridge redeck is needed.
“They test different parts of it like the superstructure and substructure,” MoDOT project manager Claudia Hoffman said. “These ones came back with needing rehab for the deck, so the substructure is fine.”
Construction will shift traffic to head-to-head in the westbound lanes. The westernmost crossover will be located just after Young Street/U.S. Business 50, while the easternmost will be located just before NW 191 RD.
During the project, all access to westbound 50 Highway from Young Street/U.S. Business 50 will be closed. Access to businesses and residences along the westbound lanes of 50 will be controlled through an access point at NW 121st RD, landmarked by Wildscapes.
Those needing to travel to Red Tag Logistics, located to the west of Wildscapes, will also be able to do so from that point of access.
“[The traffic layout] is going to be the most impactful for your community,” Hoffman said.
Thursday’s meeting kicked off a public comment period that runs through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. Comments can be left online at https://www.modot.org/form/u-s-route-50-bridge-rehabilitati.
“It tells us what the driver’s concerns are,” Ward said. “If they drive it, they probably drive it every day.”
