Two newcomers are vying for the Pettis County Recorder of Deeds in the Nov. 3 General Election.
Christina Chancellor is running as an independent while Diana Schroeder is running as a Republican. The position, a four-year term, is currently held by Barbara Clevenger.
Why are you running for office?
Chancellor: Running for Pettis County Recorder of Deeds is something I have thought about for a long time. I have spent 25 years working in the Recorder’s Office, serving alongside people I respect and learning this job inside and out.
I’m running because I truly love what I do. I know this office, I understand the importance of the records entrusted to our care, and I care deeply about the people we serve. I want to use my knowledge and experience to continue providing Pettis County with a Recorder’s Office that is efficient, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.
Schroeder: I’m running for Pettis County Recorder of Deeds because I believe in serving the community that I call home. My husband Troy and I have built our lives here on our century family farm. We have raised our 5 children here. We have especially enjoyed all the years in Pettis County 4-H. I feel it taught our children a lot of values. I care deeply about the people and families in our community. Through my time spent in the farm, and as I’m getting older, it gives me a new appreciation for how important it is to keep accurate records of our properties. I want to be a part of continuing that to happen. I want to give back and serve the people of Pettis County.
What are your qualifications?
Chancellor: For 25 years, I have had the privilege of serving our community from inside the Pettis County Recorder’s Office. During that time, I have worked under three different Recorders of Deeds and learned valuable lessons from each of them.
My experience has given me a thorough understanding of the daily operations of the office, the recording process, and the importance of maintaining accurate public records. I have also built strong working relationships with the title companies, attorneys, researchers, and members of the public who rely on our office.
I believe my years of hands-on experience, knowledge of the office, and commitment to serving others have prepared me well for this position.
Schroeder: I have 26 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and customer service. I have been responsible for operating the everyday duties of 2 fast pace businesses. I have learned that being organized, and paying attention to detail is very important. I have always treated people with respect, and will continue to always do so. I have a very strong Christian work ethic, and I believe in an honest, hard days work.
Have you previously run for office or held a government position?
Chancellor: I have never run for an elected office or held an elected government position. However, I have spent the past 25 years serving Pettis County as an employee of the Recorder’s Office.
Schroeder: I have never run for office or held a government position. I do however know with 100 percent confidence that I can serve the people of Pettis County as your next Recorder of Deeds.
What goals do you have for the office if you are elected?
Chancellor: My goal is to continue the knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly service that the Pettis County Recorder’s Office has always worked to provide.
One of my priorities would be to continue digitizing our historical records to help preserve them for future generations while making them more accessible.
I also believe there is always room for improvement. Technology continues to change the way we do our jobs, and I want to be open to new ideas and opportunities that make our office even more efficient and helpful to the public.
Above all, I want the people of Pettis County to feel confident that their important records are being handled with care, accuracy, and professionalism.
Schroeder: My goals are to focus on accuracy, organization, and serving the people. I understand what an important responsibility this office is. These records matter to families, property owners, businesses, and our future generation. I want to make sure that is protected from fraud. I want to have friendly and dependable service that people can trust.
Why should people vote for you?
Chancellor: I believe my 25 years of experience and firsthand knowledge of the Recorder’s Office make me well qualified to serve as Pettis County Recorder of Deeds.
I understand how the office operates, the responsibilities that come with the position, and the importance of maintaining accurate records. My experience would allow me to provide a smooth transition and continue serving the people of Pettis County without interruption. I take pride in the work I do and the relationships I have built over the years. If elected, I will continue to serve with the same dedication, integrity, and friendly customer service that I have always tried to provide.
It would be an honor to continue serving Pettis County as your Recorder of Deeds.
Schroeder: I am proud to say that I am the only Republican candidate. I bring to the job 26 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and customer service. When you vote for me, you are voting for 26 years experience, a strong work ethic, someone who has attention to detail, and wants to serve the people of Pettis County. I would be honored to earn your vote and have the opportunity to serve you as your next Pettis County Recorder of Deeds.
