A single-elimination tournament stands between every team and a spot in the state bracket.

District volleyball action begins across the area Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Three area schools will host their respective district tournaments, while Smith-Cotton makes a two-hour trip south to Republic.

Here is a breakdown of each tournament:

CLASS 1 DISTRICT 14 TOURNAMENT AT SMITHTON HIGH SCHOOL

Sacred Heart, a district runner-up from a season ago, will look to replicate last year’s run and finish the job as the No. 2 seed in the Class 1 District 14 Tournament at Smithton High School.

The Gremlins (11-14) will play No. 7-seeded Northwest (2-21-3) at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. No. 4 Otterville and No. 5 La Monte precede that matchup at 5 p.m.

Both Otterville (22-10) and La Monte (16-12-2) are enjoying their best seasons in recent history. The winner of their quarterfinal match will advance to play No. 1-seeded St. Paul Lutheran Concordia (13-12-4) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21.

No. 3 Smithton (17-14) faces No. 6 Sweet Springs (19-8-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of this matchup will face the winner of Sacred Heart-Northwest at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The district championship is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.
