Weekly Report: Pettis County Commission appoints building and grounds director

During daily meetings June 24-28, the Pettis County Commission completed the following:

June 24: Eastern Commissioner Israel Baeza spoke at the Right to Life remembrance ceremony.

June 25: The Pettis County On-Site Wastewater working group met in the Commission Chambers and discussed potential changes to ordinances pertaining to lagoons, subdivisions, and other topics. Also present were Recorder of Deeds Barbara Clevenger, Pettis County Health Center Environmental Public Health Specialists David Switzner and Kirk Martin, Pettis County Health Center Administrator and County Health Officer Malinda Nevels, Landmann Title Company owner Stephanie Wooldridge, and OCD Engineering Engineer Martin Heins.

The Commission had a pre-construction meeting regarding the Boonville Road bridge. Also present were Auditor Beverly Dillon, County Clerk Nick La Strada, GIS Director James Theisen, OWN Engineering Project Manager Kurt Mester, OWN Engineering Site Inspector Bart Brower, and Widel Inc. representative Phoebe Berges.

The Commission completed the semifinal inspection of the Main Street Road bridge, to be opened at a later date pending contractor improvements. Also present were Theisen, Mester, Brower, and JK Concrete & Hauling LLC owner Kurt Kueffer.

June 26: The Commission went into closed session for discussions regarding personnel.

Keystone KC Engineering Senior Engineer Gary Strack discussed Pettis County FEMA storm shelters and other projects. Also present were Sedalia-Pettis County EMA Director Trisha Rooda, Theisen, Building and Grounds Director Bret Manuel, and Assistant Building and Grounds Director Chris Hoke.

Crown Power & Equipment sales representative Matt Bohon visited the Commission.

June 27: The Commission met with Hunter Kelly, Deputy State Director from U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley's Office, and discussed updates on federal legislation.

June 28: The Commission approved Commission Order 02-2024 #1877, establishing a 15 mph speed limit at Maplewood and Brooking Park Village Subdivisions. Also present were Treasurer Kim Lyne, La Strada, Theisen, and IT Director Brett Denomme.

The Commission discussed a West Central Waste Management Region District F grant. Also present was Theisen.

Dillon discussed property and casualty insurance RFQs.

The Commission appointed Hoke to Pettis County Building and Grounds Director. Also present were Presiding Judge Jeff Mittelhauser, Assessor Chris Woolery, Dillon, Public Administrator Charli Ackerman, Lyne, Manuel, Rooda, Theisen, Denomme, Field Appraiser Frank Higgins, Property Clerk Sheryl Von Holten, citizen Luke Goosen, and members of Hoke’s family.

Sheriff Brad Anders discussed county payroll procedures.

The census for the Pettis County Jail for the week of June 24 is 176 inmates and the census for 911 calls is 1,637 calls.
