Four injured, one in serious condition, in Sedalia accident

Four Sedalia residents were injured at 6:33 p.m. Tuesday in a Pettis County accident.

Vita G. Olefirenko, 34, a 4-year-old female and a 2-year-old male all sustained moderate injuries and a 12-year-old female sustained serious injuries.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Olefirenko was driving east on U.S. Highway 50, a half-mile west of Main Street in a 2010 Toyota without headlights in low lighting conditions. A 2005 John Deere driven by Cameron R. Winters, 34, of Sedalia, driving north attempted to cross in front of Olefirenko. Due to Venters not seeing the other vehicle on the roadway, the vehicle struck the John Deere on the driver's side.

None of the juveniles were wearing seat belts. It is unknown if Olefirenko or Venters were wearing seat belts.

The 2-year-old and 4-year-old were transported by Pettis County Ambulance District to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. The 12-year-old was transported by air ambulance to Children's Mercy Hospital. Olefirenko was transported by Pettis County Ambulance District to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

Information is taken from preliminary Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved.
